Maude Abbott
When the famous painter, Diego Rivera, was commissioned to created his 1940s mural commemorating innovators in cardiology, he only considered one woman to be worthy of inclusion - Canadian Dr. Maude Abbott, the Montreal-based international authority on cardiac disease. Maude was the very first woman to get a Bachelor of Arts degree at McGill University and she was only woman in her class in medical school back then.
