The Project started back in 2023 - by inviting industry and community leaders to this RBC boardroom in Halifax, Nova Scotia to gauge interest in using art to honour female pioneers.
The idea was to: a) increase awareness among this generation... about the ‘hidden half’ of STEM history; b) inspire the next generation - specifically girls and young women to enter STEM studies/fields, and c) get 'Great Women' hanging in professional/public spaces like offices, universities, libraries and hospitals.
Research shows role models are a powerful tool - that a powerful “if you can see it, you can be it” effect can be created, and that this effect can translate into measurable increases in female participation and achievement in traditionally male-dominated fields like STEM.
In Year 4 of The Project, and in alignment with our project mission's primary purpose -
to inspire the next generation of girlsand young women to gain a sense of ownership in STEM fields by discovering the 'hidden half' of STEM history -
Art is being married with AI... to create "speaking portraits" for Grade 6 classes and science centres.
